National Library (Yangon): History preserved for future generations

The National Library (Yangon) has more than 900,000 manuscripts and literature and international publications arranged with shelving systems according to the relevant sections.

Renovation works were carried out in 2017 at the National Library (Yangon) in Pabedan Township and was opened in 2022. The National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) was opened in May 2013.

The National Library (Yangon) has more than 900,000 ancient rare literature, handmade manuscript, magazine, newspaper, journal, research paper as well as international publications and is open for anyone to read and study.

There are various kinds of libraries such as the National Library, the University Library, the research institute library, public library, special library, township libraries opened by the Information and Public Relations Department under the Ministry of Information, private libraries, school libraries and village libraries.

A good library is a treasure trove of various knowledge and resources that can be easily accessible for any kind of literature on a variety of topics. Nowadays, there’re slight changes in library culture.

Library is not just a reading room, but literary lectures, art exhibitions, symposiums, book exhibitions, commemorative exhibitions in addition to a place in which any kinds of music and songs, foods, souvenir shops can be enjoyable for public relations.
