A National Consultation session on Myanmar Hazardous Work List took place on Tuesday in Nay Pyi Taw. This 1-day session covered International Practices on Hazardous Child Labour, Hazardous Work Determination process in Myanmar and next steps for formalization and enforcement.
Chief Technical Advisor, ILO, Selim Benaissa said “There are about 152 million children into child labour. Out of them, there is approximately more than 72 million of children in hazardous work. If we look at the national data from the labour force survey that was conducted in Myanmar in 2015, we have 1.121 million of children aged 5 to 17 into child labour. More than half of them, more than 615,000 children are into hazardous work.”
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Myo Aung said “Many workshops and consultations have been held since 2005 for Myanmar Hazardous Work List and today is the final consultation. Concerning child labour, as we Myanmar ratified the ILO Convention 182, we have to do Hazardous Work List.”
Myanmar ratified the ILO Convention 182 in 2013 December. Hluttaw representatives, members of social organizations and technical working group were among those attending this session.
