NASA held a prelaunch briefing on the role of industry in advancing human exploration. On August 29th, NASA will provide coverage of prelaunch, launch, and postlaunch activities for Artemis I, the first integrated test of NASA's Orion spacecraft, Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, and the ground systems at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Kelly DeFazio, director of Orion production, Lockheed Martin said "It is the safest spacecraft for humans ever created for our astronauts. It will go farther than we've ever gone before on Artemis One, 40,000 miles beyond the moon and we are super excited to see how it perform. That heat shield on the back end is going to show us how we've taken that material from the Apollo days and brought that into the 21st century from a new way of manufacturing it. "

This uncrewed flight test around the Moon will pave the way for a crewed flight test and future human lunar exploration as part of Artemis.
