Narco sub confiscated with 1.8 tons of cocaine

Colombia's Navy said it captured a narco submarine seizing some 1.8 tons of cocaine on board.

The sleek green vessel was located operating off that country's Pacific coast near the Department of Nariño. Once captured and boarded, Navy personnel discovered the cargo of illicit drugs in the hold of the submarine.

Authorities said the shipment has a street value of some $60 million (US) and was destined to be sold and distributed throughout Latin America where consumption of cocaine has risen. The crew of the narco submarine jumped off the ship and escaped.
