Naga Traditional New Year: celebrated in Hkamti Township of Sagaing Region

Naga Traditional New Year Festival was celebrated in Hkamti Township of Sagaing Region on 21st January. At the festival, traditional foods and rice wine were served and presented prizes for the winners of 2023 Naga Traditional New Year Festival  commemoration games. After that, Naga traditional bonfire ceremony was held and the participants of various tribes of Naga performed the traditional dances.

The Naga Traditional new Year Festival is celebrated in the middle of January, the time after the harvest and before starting the farming activities again. They make prayers to have good yielding crops and fair climate and to be freed from all kinds of sickness and epidemic in festival. Then, the family members, relatives and friends from far and near happily meet with each other. Also they sing melodious songs and folk dances that mark their tradition and culture.
