Myanmar-UNHCR Cooperation: Immigration & Population Union Minister receives representative

Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing received representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Myanmar Ms. Noriko Takagi.

This meeting at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday focused on cooperation between the Ministry and UNHCR for many years for repatriation of displaced people to Rakhine State, status of the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry and UNDP-UNHCR, the need to extend the MoU in order to continue cooperation, hindered and delayed operations due to the statements and broadcasts of some foreign organizations and some foreign media without being aware of the actual situation on the ground, government’s efforts for successful readmission of displaced persons from Rakhine State, UNHCR’s plan to provide assistance to areas affected by the cyclone in addition to the resettlement of displaced persons and condition for a friendly and open dialogue between the Ministry and UNHCR in carrying out the activities.
