




The 2023 Inter-Region/States Traditional Chinlone competition kicked off at Wunna Theikdi Gymnasium (A), Nay Pyi Taw on 9th October.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation, the competition is annually held to develop the Myanmar Traditional Chinlone sport and to turn out the new generation athletes from regions and states throughout the country.
Tun Lin Thaung, Vice Chairman, Myanmar Traditional Chinlone Federation said "This is 44th competition. This year, 12 teams (men) came to participate from the regions and states. I am really satisficed to see the Chinlone sport is getting much interested. Even though we had faced silence for about four years during COVID, our traditional Chinlone sport is still standing at its role and getting widespread. The Federation is also trying to get increase number of athletes in coming years and to reach to the National Level Sports Competitions."
Sa U, Selected Chinlone Player said "This is our traditional sport. I have good advantages in playing Chinlone. We feel healthier, and for me, I constantly play Chinlone even during COVID period. I truly value it and with the aims at spreading our traditional Chinlone sport originated from Myanmar to the world, our Myanmar people should preserve and play it. "
The 2023 Inter-Region/ State Traditional Chinlone Competition will last from 9th to 12th October at Wunna Theikdi Gymnasium (A), a total of 186 players from 12 teams (men) and 6 teams (women) from regions and states and is open to the public free of charge.
Aung Htet, Chairman, Chinlone Sub-Committee, Yangon said "In the previous competition, 20 best players were selected out of 34 teams. We conduct one month training for this inter-region/state competition representing Yangon region. Township levels are very basic in choosing the talented athletes reaching up to the state level players."
The wining athletes are going to be awarded 1.5 million kyats for the 1st prize, 1 million kyat for the 2nd, 700,000 kyats for the 3rd and 100,000 kyats for the best player award including medals and trophies.
