Myanmar New Year Day : Making meritorious deeds at Shwedagon Pagoda

Myanmar New Year Day event organized by the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees took place at the hall of ancient Buddha images at the southern corner of the Pagoda in the early morning of the 17th of April.

On this significant day, many meritorious deeds such as offering alms to the Great Shwedagon Pagoda, dawn meal to the Ovadacariya Sayadawgyis and members of the Sangha were carried out. This event also included recitation of the Parritta Suttas by the Ovadacariya Sayadawgyis and offertories donation to the members of the Sangha.

Member, Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, Win Lwin, said " We offered alms, flowers, water and fruits to the Great Shwedagon Pagoda, dawn meal to the Ovadacariya Sayadawgyis and members of the Sangha, and we took precepts from the Sayadawgyis and members of the Sangha and shared the merits gained. We hold the New Year Day event annually here, so the volunteers used to it and we don’t need to take so much time to prepare for this. I wish our country to be a peaceful and prosperous country."

On the Myanmar New Year Day on Monday, the Shwedagon Pagoda teemed with pilgrims, paying homage to the Buddha image, taking mediation, keeping Sabbath and performing meritorious deeds.
