Myanmar Delegation: Delegation led by MoE UM met with Chair of CNPC

A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin currently in China to attend the Third World Oil and Gas Conference and discuss energy cooperation with China, met with the Chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) at the Reception Hall of CNPC in Beijing On November 11 and conducted discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, upgrading and expanding refinery plants, ensuring a continuous supply of crude oil and natural gas, and the possibility of constructing an LNG terminal in Myanmar to share and meet both countries' natural gas needs.

They also discussed ways to fully utilize the Myanmar-China oil and gas pipelines, and considered opportunities for investment in Myanmar's promising oil and gas projects, including pipeline construction, refinery and fertilizer plant upgrades, and new construction projects.

On November 12, the Myanmar delegation met with Deputy head and representatives of the National Energy Administration (NEA) of China in Beijing. The meeting covered various aspects of energy policy and strategic cooperation between the two countries, with emphasis on energy security, green and renewable energy technologies, and investment possibilities from China.

They explored potential collaboration leveraging Myanmar’s strategic geographical location, especially in relation to China’s partnerships in the Middle East and Africa. Further discussions included opportunities for human resource development in Myanmar’s energy sector with support from China.

Later, a delegation from Sino-pipeline International (SPI) met with the Union Minister at his accommodation to discuss the progress of his meetings with Chinese energy officials and to outline implementation steps based on these discussions. The Myanmar delegation was accompanied by the representatives from Myanmar Embassy in Beijing, including the Chief of mission, who also participated in these discussions.
