An annual Ayeyawady dolphin count survey will be conducted this month and the survey period will take 7 days, according to an official of Main Ma Hla Island Wildlife Sanctuary. The project is managed by the Department of Fisheries with support by Wildlife Conservation Society with the main purpose to reduce threats to dolphins, to know the number of dolphins near Main Ma Hla Island, and to support the eco-tourism in Myanmar.

The Ayeyawady dolphins are found in 3 rivers such as the Mekong, the Mahakam of Indonesia, and the Ayeyawady river of Myanmar. In March 2022, the survey was conducted for 7 days and 14 dolphins were recorded near Main Ma Hla Island in Ayeyawady Region.
