Music and colours at the Calabar Carnival in Nigeria

Thousands of revellers flocked to the Calabar Carnival in southern Nigeria, widely regarded as “Africa’s biggest street party,” showcasing vibrant dancers, elaborate floats, and colourful costumes. The annual festival, held every December in the capital of Cross River State, attracts nearly two million visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

Joseph Eyo, spectator said "As you can see for yourself, actions speak louder than words. It has been a season of sweetness, a season of fun, fun, fun, fun. A season of celebration, a season of happiness. It has been reunion, it has been bonding and meeting old friends, bonding with family members."

The event allowed for reunions with friends and family, as well as interactions with international guests. This year, the carnival featured participation from the ECOWAS community, as well as the Portuguese and Spanish embassies, highlighting its growing global appeal while celebrating local culture and heritage.
