Multi-purpose Dam Project: Scheduled to be completed in 2025-2026

Aiming at the greening of Meiktila Plain of Mandalay Region, increasing water supply to the constructed reservoirs and boosting electricity generation, the Keng Kham Multi-purpose Dam Project has been implemented in 2005-2006 fiscal year.

At present, 84.58 %of the work undertakings of this project has been completed and is scheduled to be completed in 2025-2026 fiscal year. Upon completion, it will have the storage capacity of about 350,000 acre-feet of water and could generate 24 kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

Director, Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Dept., Nyunt Htay said "The project has been carried out with the approval of the Special Projects Implementation Team Meeting (1/2006) and includes the 5 main procedures for dam project such as pre-construction, construction of sluice, spill way, water channel and hydroelectric facilities."

Keng Kham Hydroelectric Project will operate with the installation of two 5 MGW hydropower plants and could generate 24 million KW hours annually upon completion.

In addition, Keng Kham Dam Project leads to positive impact for rural areas of Mandalay region. The socio-economic life of the farmers will surely develop due to the sufficient irrigated waters for the farmlands of Mandalay region, it’s reported.
