More than 450 people have been rescued in five different operations in the southern Mediterranean sea, Doctors Without Borders said Thursday.

The NGO said 458 rescued people are now on board of their ship. Women and unaccompanied minors, mainly from sub-Saharan African countries, were among those rescued. The migrants were attempting to reach Europe's southern coasts on unseaworthy rubber dinghies.

The NGO said they still do not know where to disembark the migrants as a port of destination has not yet been assigned by authorities in southern European countries.
