Final reconstruction works at Mosul International Airport are over 90% complete. The airport is set for a soft opening on June 10, marking 11 years since Mosul’s occupation by ISIS. The facility spans five square kilometres and includes a passenger terminal with a 550,000 annual capacity.

The runway, previously 2,650 meters, has been extended to 3,000 meters. It will accommodate type C aircraft for passengers and type E aircraft for cargo. Seven aircraft per day are expected under current runway capacity.

Annual air freight capacity is projected at 25,000 tons. Final procedures will follow the soft opening before full operations begin. The airport is expected to boost economic and transport links in northern Iraq.
