

On Friday, a powerful earthquake in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains has killed at least 296 people and causing buildings to crumble and forcing residents to evacuate their homes in shaking felt from Rabat to Marrakesh, the country's Interior Ministry reported.
A local official reported that numerous casualties have been recorded. In Marrakech, the closest major city to the epicenter, residents revealed that some structures had collapsed within the old city, an UNESCO World Heritage site. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 and occurred about 11 miles below the surface.
