More than 490,000 applicants for universities in Japan have begun the two-day standardized entrance examinations.

The first day of the annual exams started on Saturday at 651 venues across the country. The revised test for university admissions was launched in 2021. This year’s edition is employing a different format for the first time that is based on the new education curriculum guidelines, with 21 subjects in seven subject areas.
