Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a state-of-the-art Locomotive Manufacturing Plant of the Indian Railways in Dahod, Gujarat, on Monday, marking a major step forward in strengthening India’s railway infrastructure and boosting freight capacity.
The event also witnessed the flagging off of the first electric locomotive produced at the plant, a symbol of India’s push towards modern, energy-efficient rail transport. According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, this new facility will manufacture powerful 9,000 horsepower electric locomotives designed for both domestic use and export markets.
These locomotives feature advanced regenerative braking systems aimed at reducing energy consumption and enhancing environmental sustainability. The new plant is expected to significantly increase the freight loading capacity of Indian Railways, thereby supporting economic growth and the efficient movement of goods across the country.
