Mobility Project: Student Mobility Programme “ERASMUS+ KA107” Kicked Off

A 2-year student mobility programme “ERASMUS+ KA107” kicked off on Thursday at University of Medicine (1) in Yangon.

ERASMUS+ stands for European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students more than just education such as training, youth and sport.

The programme runs for 7 years from 2014 to 2020 with organisations invited to apply for funding each year for life-changing activities.

The mobility project between the University of Medicine (1) Yangon from Myanmar and University of Parma from Italy is receiving grants for E.U as the project recently passed the ERASMUS+ programme with the mark KA 107.

Rector, University of Medicine (1) Yangon, Prof. Zaw Wai Soe said “University of Medicine (1) and University of Parma have been cooperating for years with letter of agreement. Later, the exchange project between the two universities applies for ERASMUS+ programme to receive grants from E.U. The project term is 2 years. Under the project, students, staffs and teachers from UM (1) will go and receive trainings at University of Parma and the same goes for University of Parma.”

Under the 2-year project, a total of 20 representatives from University of Medicine (1) with 10 students, 6 teachers and 4 staffs will be sent separately in 2 batches at around the months June and July of each year to the University of Parma for training.

At the same time, 10 representatives from University of Parma - 4 students, 4 teachers and 2 staffs will be receiving trainings at UM (1).

Rector, University of Medicine (1) Yangon, Prof. Zaw Wai Soe said “What makes this project so special is that it is the first time ever for a medical university in Myanmar receiving grants from E.U. Student mobility is very important as it plays a big role in internalization. Quality assurance and accreditation of our university must be on the similar level with of international universities. According to WHO world ranking for healthcare system, Italy ranks second and Myanmar is the second last.”

A mobility exchange programme like “ERASMUS+ KA107” is the initiative for building up world class university which is one of goals of national education strategic plan for higher education.
