MNHRC inspection team: Police Lock-ups & Court Detention Centers inspected

The inspection team, led by U Kyaw Myint, Member of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), inspected Myo Ma Police Lock-ups and Court Detention Centers in Htantabin Township, Yangon Region, on August 20, 2024, in accordance with Sections 43 and 44 of the Commission Law.

The inspection team met with detainees while inspecting the police lock-up and court detention center and inquired the living and eating conditions of the detainees during the remand period, whether the detainees had been subjected to torture during the investigation, whether they were allowed to meet with their families, and their conditions for food and drink during court appearances.

The team also inspected the cleanliness of the lock-ups, including the use of sewage systems, and examined whether the detainees had access to meetings with lawyer.MNHRC will inform its findings and recommendations to the relevant department in accordance with the MNHRC law for necessary actions.
