Missing Florida boy found dead in septic tank

The body of a 1-year-old Florida boy who had been missing for a day was found Monday in a septic tank on the property where his family lived, and investigators said evidence points to his death being accidental. Jose Lara's body was found in a septic tank about 32 meters from his family's home in Putnam County.

H.D. "Gator" DeLoach, Putnam County Sheriff said "It was at that point that some of our detectives and the contractor removed some of the debris and dirt that was surrounding the cleanout, at which point they began the process of draining the septic tank and found Jose's body submerged." "This was certainly the the worst possible case scenario as far as outcome."

More than 120 law enforcement officers and firefighters had searched a 2-square-mile area since Sunday. The decision was made early Monday to drain the septic tank. Investigators believe the boy stepped on the rotted cover and fell in.
