The Ministry of Health has issued a public notification to raise awareness about the prevention and management of viral conjunctivitis, commonly known as sore eyes. This highly contagious eye condition is caused by a virus and can persist for 5 to 7 days.

Recognizable symptoms include red eyes, irritation, increased tear production, discharge, swelling, and sensitivity to light. To curb the spread of this infection, it is crucial to avoid sharing utensils and close proximity with infected individuals.

The public is strongly advised to refrain from using shared items such as handkerchiefs and instead option for disposable tissues. Infected individuals should wash their clothes separately to prevent contamination. If infected, thorough eye cleaning is essential, along with the use of artificial tear eye drops three to four times a day.

Hands must be washed diligently before and after cleaning the eyes or applying eye drops. Any lack of improvement should prompt a visit to the nearest clinic, hospital, or eye care center. Additionally, infected individuals are urged to wear protective glasses to prevent the spread of the infection to others.
