




On October 21, Union Minister for Labor U Myint Naung attended the Ministerial Conference on Labor Cooperation between Laos and Myanmar at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Vientiane, Laos.
Also present at the occasion were Laotian Minister of Labour and Social Welfare H.E. Mdm. Baykham Khattiya and other officials. During the conference, the Union Minister highlighted strengthening friendly relations and sector-specific cooperation between Myanmar and Laos.
He announced that a memorandum of understanding will be signed to establish basic labor principles in skill development, job placement, social security, labor protection and technical cooperation between the two countries.
This was followed by a session on “Sharing Myanmar's Labor Affairs and Socio-Economic Development” by Union Minister. During the session, he outlined an economic policy to identify employment opportunities for local citizens and returning nationals, prioritizing high-employment businesses.
The Union Minister discussed measures for the orderly employment of migrant workers abroad, amendments to the Overseas Employment Law and a five-year national plan for managing labor migration. He also highlighted the appointment of labor diplomats in Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan and cooperation with embassies in countries without ambassadors to assist Myanmar migrant workers.
Next, representatives from both countries engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the future cooperation plan. Following this dialogue, a Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed between the Laotian Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and Myanmar's Ministry of Labor.
