





The 612th Traditional Maha Thingyan Mingalar Drum Conveying Ceremony of Gon Shan Ethnics in Kengtung of eastern Shan State was held on Thursday. Member of the Central Advisory Board of the State Administration Council U Sai Lone Saing attended the ceremony together with Triangle Region Command Commander Maj-Gen Ni Lin Aung and officials.
They first made cash donation for the ceremony. Then the Nanda Bayriနန္ဒဘေရီMingalar Drum was conveyed to the stage, and the Board member and officials blessed for good wishes by sounding the drum 7 times. They later sprinkled scented water to the drum.
It was followed by performance of traditional dances by sounding the drum continuously. Gon Shan ethnic people hold this ritual ceremony annually. According to the tradition, the drum will be sound continuously for 24 hours starting today, and will convey to LaungKoat Nat Khin creek on 14 April. It is believed that sounding Nanda Bayri Drum, the country will achieve peace and prosperity with flourishing of religion and good climatic condition.
