Mid-Year Gems Emporium: SAC Chairman graced the opening ceremony

The Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing graced the opening ceremony of the 2024 Mid-Year Myanmar Gems Emporium held at the Mani Yadanar Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 18th November.

Also attended at the event were the SAC Joint-Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Council members, Union Ministers, Union level officials, the Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, high-ranking military officials from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, deputy ministers, departmental officials, representatives of the Myanmar Gems and Jewelry Entrepreneurs Association, invited guests, and gem and jewelry industry representatives from both domestic and international businesses.

First, the SAC Chairman and attendees viewed a video presentation showcasing Myanmar’s pearl production and sales, the manufacturing of gems and jewelry, and preparations for organizing the 2024 Mid-Year Myanmar Gems Emporium.

Following this, the SAC Chairman and attendees toured the Mani Yadanar Jade Hall, where they inspected jade, gemstone collections, and pearl sets displayed for sale.

The SAC Chairman heard clarifications provided by relevant officials and gave the necessary guidance. After that, the SAC Chairman and party observed and encouraged activities at private gem and jewelry shops and inspected raw jade collections displayed outside the hall.

It was noted that Myanmar Gems Emporium has been held since 1964 to generate foreign income for the country and contribute to the economic development of the citizens. This year’s emporium showcases 280 pearl lots, 160 gemstone lots, and 4,800 jade lots, which will be sold to domestic and international gem traders through an open tender system.

Accepted currencies include US dollars, euros, Chinese yuan, Thai baht, Myanmar kyat, and other foreign currencies recognized by the Central Bank of Myanmar, following the established rules and regulations.

The emporium will be held from 18th to 27th November and it was reported that over 4,500 entrepreneurs of gem industry from both home and abroad attended the opening ceremony.
