





The Microfinance Business Supervisory Committee meeting (1/2025) was held at the Union Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Planning and Finance in Nay Pyi Taw on January 13.
Initially, the Committee Chairman, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for Planning and Finance, U Win Shein, stated that during this meeting, raising the most appropriate maximum credit limit and savings target matching the country’s current economic development will be discussed and made decisions. He also mentioned that the committee regularly reviews the expansion of the microfinance business sector and emphasized the importance of ensuring that loan applicants manage their debts properly.
Additionally, hepointed out the necessity of organizing the membership review processes systematically and discussed the challenges and needs that microfinance businesses currently face, encouraging collective brainstorming and suggestions for solutions.
Furthermore, the Secretary of the Committee, the Director-General of the Department of Financial Supervision, clarified the current operations of the microfinance business sector. This included discussions on the applications for business licenses from three microfinance companies and other matters that the committee would deliberate on.Moreover, the Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Microfinance Association, presented the association’s efforts in promoting and developing the microfinance business sector.
He outlined training programs, collaboration with development partner organizations, and the challenges faced during business operations. Committee members made suggestions and discussed solutions that the committee could address to support these efforts. After that, the Committee Chairman, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister gave closing remarks.
