On April 16, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sent a diplomatic memorandum to the United States, seeking enhanced coordination on border security following a recent U.S. decision to transfer nearly 110,000 acres of federal land along the U.S.-Mexico border to the Department of Defense.

This move allows the U.S. Army to manage the land as part of a military base, potentially enabling troops to detain unauthorized immigrants until they are handed over to immigration authorities. The U.S. and Mexican military officials have also agreed to conduct coordinated patrols on their respective sides of the border, increase information sharing, and establish methods for immediate communication.
