Giant skeletons danced through the streets of Mexico City on Saturday as part of a colourful parade at the start of Day of the Dead celebrations.
Thousands watched as the parade made its way along a three-mile-long route, all the way from Reforma Avenue to Zocalo square in the centre of the Mexican capital.Mexico City authorities anticipated one million people would line up along the city's main avenues to enjoy Saturday's procession.
Mexico has long had a different attitude towards death, more social, more accepting than other parts of the world.
The Day of the Dead celebrations traditionally consist of families gathering at the graves of departed loved ones over November 1st to 2nd, bringing them music, drink and conversation. The parade allows this tradition to spill onto the streets and share it with thousands of tourists from all over the world who want to learn more about other perspectives to look at death.
