Mexico City celebrates Chinese New Year with a contest

Mexico City residents were treated to a costume contest on Sunday as part of Lunar New Year celebrations. The contest gathered hundreds of spectators who enjoyed the costumes and celebrated in the Mexican capital at the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit.

The contest included two categories: children and youth, and the outdoor celebrations included performances by lion and dragon dancers, among other activities. The Lunar New Year is the most important annual holiday in China. Each year is named after one of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac in a repeating cycle.
