A Mexican female social media influencer has been shot to death in Mexico during a TikTok livestream. Authorities say the crime could be a femicide. Valeria Marquez was killed by a man on Tuesday in her beauty salon. The business is located on the outskirts of Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico.
Multiple media outlets say the 23-year-old had nearly 200,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram. She was known for making videos about beauty and makeup. In a clip from the livestream video, the influencer can be seen and heard replying "yes" when a man in the salon asks her if she is Valeria.
After that, she was shot to death. In Mexico, violence against women perpetrated by men has become a serious social issue. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said at a news conference on Thursday that the government is working with local investigators to track down those responsible for Marquez's death and to determine a motive for the attack.
