Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Thursday highlighted the importance of the North American trade agreement, ahead of her meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum said that the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on free trade "is very important for the three countries." Her remarks came after Trump said on Thursday to allow the USMCA to expire and seek a new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, even though the treaty is scheduled to be reviewed in 2026.
