Mexico President Andrés Manuel LópezObrador said that the deadly blaze at an immigration detention center in northern Mexico near the U.S. border was started by migrants inside to protest after learning they would be deported.

The fire left 40 dead following one of the deadliest incidents ever at an immigration lockup in the country. Authorities identified the dead and injured as being from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador, with Guatemalans being the largest contingent.
