The Mexican Authorities seized 10 million liters of diesel and several firearms in Tamaulipas in an operation considered a “historic” hydrocarbon seizure.

Fuel theft has become one of the main sources of income for organized crime in Mexico, which extracts hydrocarbons primarily from the pipelines of Pemex, the state-owned company. The 10 million liters of diesel were found at the facilities of a freight company after authorities intercepted a ship transporting additives for lubricating oils, the Ministry of Public Security reported in a statement on Monday.

Fuel theft has generated millions in losses for Pemex, as much of the plunder occurs through illegal extraction from its pipelines that cross several states in the country.
