Rep. Jamaal Bowman, New York, Rep. Don Beyer, Virginia, Senator Kevin Cramer, North Dakota and Senator Jeff Merkley, Oregon, react to the deal reached by Senate Democrats on climate change.
Rep. Jamaal Bowman, New York said “We have to respond to the climate catastrophe we're living in. I mean, people are dealing with it every day. We have droughts, we have fires, we have flooding, it's destroying our infrastructure. We have to respond to climate and we have to respond big. So I'm happy to see that included. Happy to see a 15 percent tax on corporations who have been avoiding tax included.”
The unexpected deal reached by Senate Democrats would be the most ambitious action ever taken by the United States to address global warming and could help President Joe Biden come close to meeting his pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030.The deal would spend nearly $370 billion over 10 years to boost electric vehicles, jump-start renewable energy such as solar and wind power and develop alternative energy sources such as hydrogen.
