Meloni expected to become Italy's 1st female PM

The September 25 election victory of Brothers of Italy, a fast-growing, nationalist party, establish barely a decade ago, gives Meloni a springboard towards the Italian premiership.

By forging coalition deals with rival right-wing and conservative allies, she is well positioned to give the nation its first government under far-right leadership since the end of World War II. As incoming premier, Meloni would be the first woman to lead Italy. She founded Brothers of Italy in December 2012.
