Mekong-Lancang Cooperation: Seminar on Ethnic Cultural Exchange launched

Under the Ethnic Cultural Exchange Program with Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2020), the Ethnic Affairs Policy and Cultural Exchange seminar was opened at the Ambassador Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

First, the Head of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand extended greetings. At the seminar, Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Saw Tun Aung Myint said that this program that is implemented with Mekong-Lancang Cooperation is aimed to share and exchange ethnic cultures and adopted policies between Myanmar and Thailand.

Under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation 2021, the Ethnic affairs and vocational education training center is being implemented in Taunggyi, Shan State of Myanmar. Upon completion of this building, Myanmar would like to continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security Thailand to exchange vocational technologies among Mekong countries.

The Union Minister said that he invited to exchange views on cooperating for the socio-economic life of ethnic people between the two countries in the further.  After reporting Mekong-Lancang cooperation project, commemorative gifts were presented.

In the afternoon session, officials from Thailand and Myanmar discussed the topics on the Concept of Highland People Development, Ethnic Affairs Policy and Rights, Illegal Immigrants and Displaced Persons Policy, cultural festivals of ethnic tribes in Myanmar, Promoting access to Justice towards Ethnic Groups in Thailand, the cultures of national races in Myanmar and guidelines on vocational protection and promotion of ethnic people through power point presentation.

Attendees from the two countries then discussed general affairs and the Union Minister then spoke words of thanks.
