


A meeting on the projects to be implemented between the Ministry of Electric Power and the Rusatom International Network, ROSATOM of the Russian Federation was held at the Ministry on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han and departmetnal heads, President of the Rusatom International Network, ROSATOM of the Russian Federation Mr. Vadim Titov and delegates.
In his opening remark, Union Minister U Thaung Han said that this is the second meeting on the cooperation of wind power and small hydropower projects. The Russia-Myanmar Coordination Group has discussed many times.
During the Rosatom delegation visit to Yangon last February, they discussed that cooperation could be made in both small and large-scale hydropower projects in the hydropower sector and in the wind power sector and the total installed capacity of more than 8000 megawatts will be tendered for investment in 6 zones across the country.
In order to continue these projects, the project proposals are submitted for Poppa region 200-MW, Min Hla Region 116-MW and Mindon Region (56-MW), it is learnt. After verifying the submissions, it will be submitted to the State Administration Council Office to sign a Feasibility Study and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
In addition to generating electricity, the wind power projects to be carried out can also be jointly conducted to be able to study for the people and the small hydropower projects can be implemented in Putao region.
The Union Minister called on Rosatom to work with their ministry or to cooperate with private investors from Myanmar in the electric power sector in order to fulfill the electricity demand of the people of Myanmar as quick as possible.
Then, the President of Rusatom International Network said that regarding thermal energy projects, they will respond the plans that can be carried out in coming June.Hydropower projects that can generate 20-MW will also be reviewed and submitted in April.
He said that the equipment that can generate less than 1-megawatt are also ready to produce small-scale hydropower. After that, the Union Minister and the Russian delegation discussed in details cooperation in wind and small-scale hudropower projects.
