Meeting on tobacco control: MoH UM delivered the opening remarks

The second meeting of the Central Board of the Control of Smoking and Consumption of Tobacco Product was held at the Meeting Hall, Office No. (4), Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on March 3. 

At the meeting, Central Board Chairman Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, delivered the opening remarks.

He stated that the Ministry of Health, in accordance with the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), is progressively implementing control measures under the Tobacco Control Law. Efforts are being made to establish smoke-free zones and areas to protect public health from the hazards of tobacco use.

Additionally, the Ministry is working to legally regulate electronic smoking devices such as e-cigarettes and vapes, which are increasingly popular among the youth. 

Following this, Secretary of the Central Board Director-General of the Department of Public Health and Dr. Myat Wunna Soe, presented updates on the implementation of the "Order on Packaging and Printing of Health Warning Images and Texts on Tobacco Products in Compliance with Standard Regulations."

He outlined the current status and future plans for enforcement. Committee members and representatives then engaged in discussions and provided recommendations.  The meeting concluded with the adoption of resolutions and closing remarks by the Central Board Chairman, after which the meeting was concluded.
