





The Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn gave a remark at the meeting with the members of Myanmar Press Council for the development of media sector held at the Information and Public Relations Department in Bahan Township, Yangon Region on January 21.
Also present at the meeting were the Chairman of Myanmar Press Council Dr. Tin Tun Oo, Vice Chairmen, Joint-Secretary, Council members and officials. In his remarks, the Union Minister began by expressing confidence that the council members, given their experience and maturity, would be able to work effectively to develop the media sector. He emphasized that in carrying out their work, it is important to consider the current practical situations and both domestic and international political contexts to ensure that the work is impactful.
He noted that the influence of the media significantly impacts daily life, and urged media outlets to avoid publishing content that supports terrorists, incites fear among the public, or destabilizes the peace and order of the country.
He emphasized that failure to adhere to these principles would result in actions being taken in accordance with existing laws. He called on the Myanmar Media Council to unite and work together to ensure that such practices are not followed.
Next, the Director-General of the Information and Public Relations Department clarified the legal taken against printers and publishers who fail to comply with established regulations regarding printing and distribution, in accordance with the law.
After that, Chairman of the Myanmar Press Council Dr. Tin Tun Oo discussed the development of the media sector and the attendees presented their views. The Union Minister coordinated requirements on the discussions.
