Meeting with ethnic cultural groups: MoEA UM met with ethnic literature and culture groups

Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs Khun Thant Zaw Htoo, accompanied by relevant officials, in the morning on May 1st, inspected the office of the Shan State Department of Ethnic Affairs. He also held a discussion with ethnic literature and cultural organizations in Shan State at the department’s meeting hall.

The Union Minister and officials first toured the Shan State Department of Ethnic Affairs office to inspect its operations and received briefings from department heads, providing necessary guidance based on their reports.

Following that, he inspected the completed paving of the office entrance road carried out during the 2024–2025 fiscal year and gave instructions for any additional needs.

Later, at the meeting hall, the Union Minister met with ethnic literature and cultural associations in Shan State. During his address, he emphasized the importance of strengthening Union spirit through the concept of “We are Myanmar.” He stated that while all ethnic groups are citizens, not all citizens are considered ethnic people. He urged the ethnic literature and cultural associations to carry out their responsibilities without bias based on individuals or ethnicity, but rather with the interest of the Union at heart, and to work together in unity for stronger ethnic solidarity.

Shan State Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Aung Kyi Win also gave a briefing on ethnic affairs and regional development activities within the Shan State.

After that, various ethnic literature and cultural organizations  including Shan, Kachin, Pa-O, Danu, Taung Yoe, Inthar, Lisu, Kokang, Yin Kya ယင်းကြား, Yinnet ယင်းနက်, and Hta-Nott ထနော့  raised issues related to ethnic affairs, regional development, registration of associations, and the appointment of ethnic language teachers in their respective regions.

In response, Shan State Ethnic Affairs Minister U Aung Kyi Win and Director General U Min Aye from the Department for the Protection and Promotion of Ethnic Rights discussed and clarified the matters. The Union Minister also contributed by coordinating and supplementing efforts to address the concerns raised.
