







Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs, U Than Maung, met with ethnic literature and cultural associations in Ayeyawady Region on the afternoon of May 20 at the meeting hall of the Ayeyawady Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs in Pathein.
In his address, Union Minister U Than Maung stated that in line with the President’s guidance and the 100-day plan, the ministry is coordinating with relevant ministries to facilitate matters related to the registration of associations for ethnic literature and culture.
He urged that traditional ethnic attire be preserved without altering original designs. He also noted that efforts are being made in coordination with the Ministry of Education to increase the appointment of ethnic language teachers. Subsequently, the Kayin Ethnic Affairs Minister, Man Thein Kyaw, and the Rakhine Ethnic Affairs Minister, U Soe Nyunt, presented on the activities being undertaken under the new government’s 100-day plan, ethnic affairs matters, and future work. Afterwards, representatives from the Kayin, Chin, and Rakhine ethnic literature and cultural associations conducted general discussions.
The Director-General of the Department for the Protection of Ethnic Rights provided additional clarification. In response to the presentations, the Union Minister coordinated and provided necessary support, and also presented cash awards to promote the preservation and advancement of ethnic literature and culture.
The Union Minister and officials then met with staff serving at the Ayeyawady Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs. The Union Minister delivered an address. The regional directors of the Departments reported on completed work and plans for the 2026–2027 fiscal year. The Director-General of the Department for the Protection of Ethnic Rights provided additional clarifications. The Union Minister coordinated necessary support and presented cash awards to the staff.
