Medical patients are evacuated in Yellowknife, Canada

Medical patients are evacuated by plane by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as winds have been fanning wildfires towards Yellowknife, in Canada's Northwest Territories. The Canadian Armed Forces say approximately 260 people have been evacuated on 5 CAF evacuation flights as of Saturday.

Several towns and Indigenous communities were evacuated earlier. The exodus from Yellowknife means half the population of the near-Arctic territory has been displaced. Some 40 flights carrying around 3,500 passengers from Yellowknife have arrived in Calgary, according to the officials.
