






The event of Global Media and Information Literacy Week was held at the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of Information in Nay Pyi Taw on 24th October with the attendance of Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn.
First, the educating documentary videos that has critically analyzed on media and information literacy was shown. Then, in his greeting speech, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn said that the fourth week of October every year is designated as Global Media and Information Literacy Week and it’s observed globally led by UNESCO since 2012. Myanmar participated in it in 2018.
The purpose of event is to review the progress of media and information literacy for all stakeholders around the world. It is to honor the progress of Media and Information Literacy and to carry out campaigns to raise public awareness around the world.
The theme of Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2024 is “The New Digital Frontiers of Information: Media and Information Literacy for Public Interest Information”, and the activities related to the event will be conducted on October 24th and 25th.
Next, the Union Minister presented certificate of honor to the teachers who will participate in the panel discussion and donated books on media and information to the teachers who will conduct as moderators.
Then, the panel discussion on the topic “The vital role of Media and Information Literacy” was conducted with the coordinator of Dr. Tin Bhone Kyaw, Dr. Kyaw Kyaw Lin, Writer Thet Thet Nwe (Thet Thet New-Yangon University) and Daw Wint Wint Aye (Advocate) discussed the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), good and bad effects of the technology, innovation, challenges, correlating between AI technology and Media, fake news, disinformation, distorted news, social media caused to spread hate speech, advantage and disadvantage of social media and communications law. The students raised their inquisitive queries on the discussion and the speakers replied.
After that, the attended students participated in the question and answer section regarding with “The vital role of Media and Information Literacy”, the Deputy Minister U Ye Tint and teachers awarded the prizes to the participants who won the prizes.
After giving a speech of conclusion by the Deputy Minister, the teachers and students were presented the gifts by drawing ballots.
