







Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing together Rakhine State Chief Minister, the Commander of Western Command and officials inspected replenishment of water into the lake that is supplying water to Sittway, Rakhine State on Thursday.
On arrival at the water supply lake to the city and water collecting tank, the State Chief Minister, the State Minister for Natural Resources and officials reported on replenishment of water into KandawGyi Lake from underground water and water requirements.
In response to the reports, the Prime Minister said that water is essential for everyone and it needs to get sufficient drinking water and irrigation. Measures are being undertaken to fulfill the water demand of Sittway.
He urged to conduct further research and dig the places where water can be available in order to obtain underground water to replenish the water into the lake and fulfilled the needs.
Later, the Prime Minister opened the water supply line from the underground water pipeline to the KandawGyilake and Thinganat dam by pressing a button and looked into availability of water.
Later, the Prime Minister looked upper soil layer, rock pieces and sandstone layers that are coming out from the soil survey in the lake.
The Prime Minister and party then arrived at tapping underground water with artesian well at the Sittway hybrid farm of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
There, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung and officials reported on the sites chosen for digging artesian wells and getting fresh water and arrangements for water supply to the lake through pipelines.
The Prime Minister stressed that it is necessary to systematically measure and calculate the amount of underground water that will be available and to replenish fresh water by collecting rainwater.
The Prime Minister and party then looked into digging artesian wells and gave necessary instructions. With the guidance of the Prime Minister during his visit to Sittway on 18th February to replenish water into Kandawgyi lake for water supply to Sittway, measures for replenishment of water with underground water into the lake was undertaken and digging artesian wells are being undertaken.
In doing so, a 4,400-ft long water pipeline was laid from Thanganat Dam to KanKawdawGyi Lake and water could be fulfilled into the lake today. The water storage capacity of the lake which is the main water supply to Sittway is 481.10 million gallons. By fulfilling water from underground water into the lake, it will support the sufficient water to Sittway.
