A 'masterpiece of intimacy' by French painter Auguste Renoir set for auction in Paris

A "masterpiece of intimacy" by French painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, also known as Auguste Renoir, portraying his son Jean Renoir and his nanny Gabrielle Renard auctioned on 25 November.  A Renoir painting titled "Child with Toys – Gabrielle and the Artist's Son, Jean" has been sold for $1.68 million at a Paris auction.

The artwork, painted around 1895, was described as a "masterpiece of intimacy" for its tender portrayal of the relationship between the artist's son and his nursemaid, Gabrielle. The piece had remained in the same family since the artist gifted it to his student, Jeanne Baudot, and had never been publicly exhibited before this sale.
