5 meters deep and 8 meters wide a giant sinkhole has opened up on a sports field in Heidelberg in Melbourne’s northeast, Australia. Emergency authorities have closed the oval and declared the area off-limits as investigations begin.

However, locals are questioning whether underground tunnelling works for the North East Link road project caused the collapse. The sinkhole on an oval in Melbourne's north-east is in the direct path of two massive boring machines building twin tunnels as part of the North East Link project. The exact cause is now being investigated.
