A Chinese city continued to carry out mass testing on Thursday morning and started distributing food supplies to residents in lockdown amid tightened restrictions in response to the latest coronavirus outbreak. Xi'an, a city of 13 million people in central China, has been in lockdown since midnight last Wednesday in an effort to stamp out an increase in coronavirus infections.

Local authorities have conducted multiple rounds of mass testing among residents to detect new infections and have asked residents to stay home. Xi'an reported 156 confirmed cases on Wednesday, marking the fifth day that the city has seen over 150 new cases. The total of infections has been pushed to 1,117 since December 9, according to the provincial government.
