Maravijaya Buddha Image: PM explains the construction progress of Buddha Park

The construction progress of Maravijaya Buddha Image was explained at a ceremony held on Sunday. The Buddha Image is being established in DeckkhinaThirir Township of Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw and will be the tallest among the sitting Buddha Images in the world that are carved out of stone.

The ceremony was attended by Interim President U Myint Swe and wife, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife, President (Retired) U Thein Sein, retired senior military officers and their wives, Chief of General Staff (Army, Navy, Air) General Maung Maung Aye, the Union Ministers, the Chief Ministers, senior military officers and their wives, Nay Pyi Taw Command Commander and officials.

In his explanation, the Prime Minister said the Buddha Image is being carved with the four aims of showing the flourishing of Theravada Buddha Sasana to the world, shaping Myanmar as a focal point of Theravada Buddhism, ensuring the prosperity of the State, and ensuring peace and prosperity in the world.

He also outlined the phased process, starting from the excavation of the stones, their transportation through river and land routes, the arrangements for the construction of the Buddha Park, guidance from the State Sangha MahaNayaka Sayadaws, inscribing religious scriptures in Pali and Romanized languages, and establishing a long-term maintenance plan.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the arrangements made for the convenience of pilgrims and the greening and beautification tasks in the Buddha Park. During the ceremony, attendees made donations to contribute to the construction process of the Maravijaya Buddha Image.

The Prime Minister accepted the donations and expressed his gratitude. After the ceremony, attendees viewed the miniature models of Maravijaya Buddha Image and Buddha Park as well as the religious scripture books written in Pali and Romanized languages and encoding of these scriptures into the Tablets.

Then, the Prime Minister and wife and attendees planted LumbiniIngyin saplings. The attendees later paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha Image and took a tour around the Buddha Park.
