




Construction of the Maravijaya Buddha image, the World’s Highest Sitting Marble Buddha Image in the Buddha Park in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw, aims to show flourishing of Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar, for Myanmar to be a focal point of Theravada Buddhism, ensure prosperity of the State and contribute to peace and stability of the world.
Advice was sought from venerable members of the Sangha from the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee for carving the Buddha image and construction of religious buildings. Tri Pitaka treatises were carved on the stone plaques in Pali and Romanized languages for the Maravijaya Buddha Park.
The Buddha image was carved in four parts with the use of CNC technology and all carving processes were completed on 31 March 2022, including construction of 720 stone plaque chambers on which small pagodas were built. Parts of the Buddha image were connected with each other and conveyed on the throne.
The gala ceremonies of consecration for the Maravijaya Buddha Image, hoisting umbrella atop the stone inscription stupas and merits sharing were held in the morning on 1st August, 2023. The public will be allowed to pay homage to the Maravijaya Buddha image free of charge from 8th to 16th of August between 6 am to 8 pm, it is reported.
