As dusk fell in Kuala Lumpur, hundreds of Muslims gathered at a mosque to enjoy “bubur lambuk”, a fragrant rice porridge that has been a Ramadan tradition for decades.
The dish, served at Masjid India, has been passed down through generations since the 1960s and is considered an essential part of the fasting experience. The tradition of preparing “bubur lambuk” is not just about the food. It helps those in need, including the homeless, low-income workers, and office employees who don’t have time to cook. For many, the iftar meals provided by mosques offer much-needed convenience during Ramadan.
