Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, is currently on his second working visit to Bangkok since assuming office in 2022. He is scheduled to meet Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn, to follow up on the Thai-Malaysian Annual Consultation held last year in Malaysia.

The spotlight will, however, be on the meeting between Anwar, who is chairing ASEAN this year, and Thaksin Shinawatra, the father of the Thai Prime Minister and chief of Anwar’s informal advisory team. Anwar met Paetongtarn at the Government House, before proceeding to the Rosewood Bangkok Hotel to meet Thaksin.

Malaysia’s state-run Bernama news agency reported that Anwar and Paetongtarn will explore areas of further potential collaboration between the two neighbouring countries and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.
